Workshops:

Informal Workshops are held during the months where a regular club meeting is not held. The format of the Workshops is to have instructions in the morning and general work in the afternoon. Beginners are encouraged to come in the morning. Everyone is welcome in the afternoon session. Bring your saws and enjoy scrolling with others.

Fortunately our location for the workshop is in a heated garage. So temperature is not a restriction on when workshops are held.

Workshops allow you to see other members shops and perhaps try out a tool that you have not yet bought. If you need wood planed, but don't have a planer, bring it to a workshop where a planer will be available. This is also an opportunity to find out about a variety of tools that you might be considering purchasing.

The calendar on the right side of the page will keep you informed as to when and where Workshops and Meetings are scheduled and give you the contact information of the member holding the Workshop.

Group Clock:

Several of our members have never done one of the more intricate clock patterns, so this project was designed to give them the opportunity to do just that. The pattern selected for this first attempt was "The Mini Grandfather Clock" from Wildwood Designs.  At our first meeting the wood was prepared. We re-sawed, planed, and dimensioned the wood to the proper size. The second meeting of this group took the prepared wood and rough cut it to the proper size for each piece of the pattern. After that the pattern pieces and the wood prepared for that piece was handed out so that everyone only had to cut a part of the project. This is the stage we are currently at. Our next meeting should cover dry fitting the finished pieces together. If everything fits together correctly, we can proceed to assembling and finishing. If there are problems in the dry fit then we all get to learn how to fix the problem or re-cut the piece.

We hope to eventually do one of the really large clocks out there. At this time wood for the project has been donated. The finished clock will either be donated to a charity or we will hold a raffle amongst our members to find the final home for this project.

Wood Show:

Look for our booth at the Chicago Woodworking Shows. Club members man the booth to answer your questions about scrolling in general, or our club in particular. We usually have at least one saw in the booth to demonstrate with. Several of our members own saws that are not commonly seen at these events, so if you want to see an Excalibur or an Eclipse in action. Stop by our booth.
